  • 23 April to 1 August 2010 - Fun With Weights and Measures - From hogsheads to macaroni noodles, yards of beer to knitting needles, rods to roods, and pinches and pitches. The strange ways we have measured capacity, distance, weight, time, currency, temperature and quantity. Pine Rivers Heritage Museum Old Petrie Town Dayboro Road Whiteside.
     
  • Throughout June, July, and August 2010 - MS Readathon - The annual readathon aims to encourage reading while raising awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis. Participants will read for 30 days at any time during the three month period. To take part in the challenge visit the website (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 3 & 4 July 2010 - Queensland Air Museum Open Cockpit Weekend - Admission is $11 for adults, $8 for concession, and $7 for a child. 9.00 am to 4.00 pm at the Caloundra Airport, Sunshine Coast (see our Sunshine Coast pages).
  • 4 July (Sunday) 2010 - Guide Dogs Queensland Open Day - Visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at how Guide Dogs are trained, see puppies of all ages and learn more about vision impairment, the mobility aids and services the association provides to Queenslanders. Gates will open at 10am to our Breeding and Training Centre on 1978 Gympie Rd, Bald Hills so be sure to arrive on time if you wish to park on site. We have plenty of parking - up to 2000 cars -and also advise catching the train to Bald Hills Station and taking the five minute walk to our centre.
     
  • 4 July (Sunday) 2010 - American Independence Day - (See costume and party ideas at Themes4Parties.)
     
  • 4 to 11 July 2010 - NAIDOC Week - National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee hosts NAIDOC week each year in July. Various activities will take place across Australia.
     
  • 6 July (Tuesday) - Kids Medieval Fun Day is the Abbey Medieval Festival’s special day for 3-12 year olds
     
  • 7 July to 1 August 2010 - From Desert to Sea: The Pine Rivers University of the Third Age Tintart Group share their interpretations of the varied landscapes found across the Australian continent in their annual art exhibition at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum. Inspired by nature, these paintings celebrate the colour and vibrancy of red sands and blue waves. The exhibitions also includes a series of free painting demonstrations on the 11th, 15th, 18th, 25th and 29th of July.
     
  • 9 to 22 July 2010 - The Redcliffe Art Society Inc Open Art Award - The competition includes the Fred Stoltz Youth Award. Categories include Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour, Photography, Pastel, Mixed Media, Drawing, and more. For more information or to enter, visit the Redcliffe Art Society.
     
  • 9 to 11 July 2010 - Dayboro Show
     
  • 10 & 11 July 2010 - Abbey Medieval Festival - The largest authentic medieval event in Australia. It spans a thousand years from Europe's Dark Ages to the High Middle Ages, roughly AD 600 to 1600.   • 14 July (Wednesday) 2010 - The Heritage Talks: A Tale of Modern Medicine and Ancient Egypt - Local resident Dr Stephen Hughes tells us how he helped the British Museum unwrap "Jeni", an Egyptian princess from the 22nd Dynasty - with technology used in modern neurosurgery. Free, morning tea included. Pine Rivers Heritage Museum Old Petrie Town Dayboro Road Whiteside QLD. 10am to 11:30 am.

  • 16 to 25 July (Sunday) 2010 - Bribie Island Arts Festival 2010 The Festival includes a wide range of Art Workshops, a Music Program of performances and workshops by local and nearby groups, Bush Poetry, a Champagne Tour of the new Bribie Island Seaside Museum, a weekend of Open Gardens in Banksia Beach, and a Festival Open Day  
     
  • 17 July (Saturday) 2010 - Scrap For A Cure - 12 hours of scrap booking to raise vital funds for Ovarian Cancer Australia at Strathpine Community Hall (Cnr Gympie Road & Mecklem Street, Strathpine). 10am until 10pm. $40.00 per head includes a light lunch and BBQ dinner. Snacks, and drinks will also be for sale at the event. Great for everyone from beginners to advanced. Many stalls will be available for all those great bargains, great raffles, make and take classes and much more.   • 17 & 18 July 2010 - Samford Show - There will be helicopter rides, fireworks, horse events, pig races, a ute show, a pet parade and more. Gates open at 8.00am. Samford Showgrounds, Showgrounds Dr, Highvale.
     
  • 17 to 30 July 2010 - Leukaemia Foundation Doorknock Appeal - Volunteers will be doorknocking to raise vital funds for the five Queenslanders diagnosed each day with leukaemias and related blood disorders. Funds collected will go towards research and supporting patients and their families.
     
  • 18 July 2010 - Jetty to Jetty Fun Run - The run starts and finishes at the Belvedere Hotel, Woody Point. Genesis Half Marathon (21km) will also be included.
     
  • 24 July (Saturday) 2010 - Sing for Joy, Sing for Fun!! 2 pm with informal concert at 4:30 pm. Rediscover the joy of community singing and to experience the excitement and joy of singing together in harmony. Free to everyone – the more the merrier!! The venue is Banksia Beach State School new Performing Arts Hall, Sunderland Drive, Bribie Island.

  • 25 July (Sunday) 2010 - Camp Quality Bayside to Bald Hills annual challenge is a non competitive walk, run or cycle event that caters to all fitness levels and adds a fun aspect along the way. It isn't about who finishes first but who raises the most funds for Camp Quality. With distances of 6, 10 or 15 kms, you are sure to find something that will suit yourself or your team! It’s also a great event to test your fitness levels before the Bridge to Brisbane in August. Participants will be greeted at the finish line with a scrumptious breakfast, health expo and a fun presentation for Camp Quality fundraising award winners. Last year saw 180 participants raising a whopping $22,000 for Camp Quality and this year we hope to break this record. Starting at Dekkar Park near Hornibrook Bridge, the scenic 15km route will follow the coastline to the Shorncliffe Waterfront before turning inland past Deagon Racecourse and finishing at the Green Apple Wellness Centre in Bald Hills.
     
  • 27 July to 6 August 2010 - TransLink Cine Sparks at the Australian Cinematheque at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA). The festival gives young Australians, from ages four to 18, a window into the lives of people from other countries and fascinates and inspires young film-goers.

  • 30 July to 1 August 2010 - Splendour in the Grass - The 2010 is the 10th Splendour in the Grass, an annual alternative music and arts festival usually held in Byron Bay. In 2010 the festival will be held in Woodford.
     
  • 31 July & 1 August 2010 - TransLink Cine Sparks Family Film Fiesta  -the annual Family Film Fiesta, presented by Brisbane City Council, will be held in the Queen Street Mall, GoMA and King George Square on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August from 10am. The family-focused weekend will serve up exciting free movie themed activities and entertainment - including giant puppet shows, marching bands, arts and crafts, workshops for kids to learn the secrets of movie making and seven quality films including Ponyo, Mia and the Migoo, Neukoln Unlimited, The General, Mai Mai Miracle, Little White Lies, The Blue Bird and all-time family favourite The Wizard of Oz.
     
  • 31 July (Saturday) 2010 - 'Rising Stars from Australia's Got Talent 2010' Concert will include performances by young musicians of all ages - including 7 year old pianist, Shuan Hern Lee (finalist, Australia's Got Talent 2010) cellist, Rachel Siu (winner, 2009 National Youth Concerto Competition) and violinist, Jasmine Jin (winner, 2009 Australian Young Musician of the Year) with Attilla Sautov and the Mueller International Chamber Orchestra at the Mueller Performing Arts Centre, 75 Morris Road, Rothwell, on Sunday 31 July at 7.30 pm. $20 and concessions.   • Throughout July 2010 - Cancer Council Call to Arms - An annual, national event to raise funds and awareness of cancer, a disease that effects 1 in 2 men by age 85. Host a Call to Arms match where the players in your sporting club wear a yellow armband in a show of support to men who have survived cancer, those currently facing the cancer fight and to remember mates who have lost their lives to cancer. All funds raised go to the Cancer Council.
