• 11 to 20 August 2011 - The Ekka - The Royal Queensland Show at RNA Showgrounds.
   
  • 17 August (Wednesday) 2011 - Ekka Show Day Holiday (People's Day) - Public holiday in City of Brisbane only.
     
  • Ekka Show Holiday - Moreton Bay Region, City of Logan, City of Redland, Lockyer Valley Region, North Burnett Region - excluding the area formerly known as the Shire of Mundubbera, part of the Toowoomba region including Yarraman, Upper Yarraman and Cooyar areas, Scenic Rim Region, Shire of Balonne, Shire of Cherbourg, Somerset Region and the South Burnett Region. 
     
• 20 to 26 August 2011 - CBCA Children's Book Week - Celebrating Australian books, authors and illustrators. The book week theme in 2011 will be One World, Many Stories   (see our BCL page on Book Week).

  • Pine Rivers Model Train and Hobby Expo - The annual Pine Rivers Model Train & Hobby Expo will run from 9 to 5 on Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday at the Strathpine Community Centre, Gympie Rd, Strathpine.
  • National Science Week - Various events around Australia. Visit the website to register or find an event.
     
  • Seniors Week - Recognises the contribution seniors make to the community.
     
  • The Lakes College Fun Run - All ages community fun run in North Lakes with 2, 6 and 10km courses.
  • RSPCA Cupcake Day 2010: Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is the biggest bakeoff in the Southern Hemisphere and involves Cupcake Cooks around Australia baking cupcakes and hosting a Cupcake Party to raise vital funds for the RSPCA. This year’s Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is being held on Monday 16 August 2010. If you can’t be involved on this date, you can still hold your Cupcake Day Party at anytime during the month of August 2010!
  • Hearing Awareness Week - Annual, national event which raises community awareness about hearing loss and ways to protect hearing.
     
  • Pine Rivers Arts Alliance 2010 Arts Festival: a  multi-arts show with a wide range of arts activities. T
  • Lowlands Festival at Osprey House Environmental Centre is a FREE family fun day. Enjoy the Radical Reptiles and Gecko Wildlife Shows as well as free face painting and jumping castle plus heaps more. The lucky door prize is a 1.5kw grid connected solar panel system for your home.   • The Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run - Including a 10km race, a 5km walk, a wheelchair race and entertainment at the Ekka showgrounds. 
     
  • Legacy Week - The funds raised from this year’s Badge Appeal will help Legacy continue to assist 120,000 widows and 1,900 children and people with disabilities Australia-wide.
