  • Throughout June, July, and August 2010 - MS Readathon - The annual readathon aims to encourage reading while raising awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis. Participants will read for 30 days at any time during the three month period. To take part in the challenge visit the website (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 30, 31 July & 1 August 2010 - Pine Rivers Show at Lawnton Showgrounds
     
  • 30, 31 July & 1 August 2010 - Splendour in the Grass - The 2010 is the 10th Splendour in the Grass, an annual alternative music and arts festival usually held in Byron Bay. In 2010 the festival will be held in Woodford.
     
  • 1 August (Sunday) 2010 - National Tree Day - Community tree planting event organised by Planet Ark. To get involved or find your nearest site, check the website.
     
  • 1 to 7 August 2010 - National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week
     
  • 2 to 8 August 2010 - National Engineering Week - Join in some of the many events celebrating the importance of engineering in our community. Events are being held for high school students, community and engineers.
     
  • 5 to 14 August 2010 - The Ekka - Royal Brisbane Show.
     
  • 7 & 8 August 2010 - Pine Rivers Model Train and Hobby Expo - The annual Pine Rivers Model Train & Hobby Expo will run from 9 to 5 on Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday at the Strathpine Community Centre, Gympie Rd, Strathpine.

  • 11 August (Wednesday) 2010 - The Heritage Talks: Forensic Archaeology - What can human remains tell us about a bygone era?   • 12 August to 31 October 2010 - Summers Past - The showcase of photographs from the National Archives of Australia vividly reminds us of Australians' enduring love affair with the sea. For those who grew up in Australia in the 1950s and 1960s, these photographs should gently stir memories of idyllic summers spent at the beach.   • 16 August (Monday) 2010 - RSPCA Cupcake Day 2010: Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is the biggest bakeoff in the Southern Hemisphere and involves Cupcake Cooks around Australia baking cupcakes and hosting a Cupcake Party to raise vital funds for the RSPCA. This year’s Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is being held on Monday 16 August 2010. If you can’t be involved on this date, you can still hold your Cupcake Day Party at anytime during the month of August 2010!

  • 27 August (Friday) 2010  - Daffodil Day - Support the Cancer Council Australia by buying a bunch of daffodils or Daffodil Day merchandise, volunteering at a merchandise stall, selling merchandise at your workplace or school, or making a cash donation. All funds raised support cancer research, prevention programs and support services for cancer patients and their families.
     
  • 27 to 29 August 2010 - Pine Rivers Arts Alliance 2010 Arts Festival: a  multi-arts show with a wide range of arts activities. The festival will be held on the weekend of the 28-29 August, with an awards and opening night on Friday 27th August. The Arts Festival will incorporate an Art and Photography Exhibition; Presentation of the Matt Campbell Memorial Awards; The 43rd Annual Queensland Youth Music Awards sponsored by The Moreton Bay Regional Council and Peter Campbell; A book launch for local authors; a craft market; a classic Car display, and a variety of other events such as Ride4Kids.
     
  • 28 August (Saturday) 2010 - festiValley: The bushland surrounds of picturesque Samford Valley will be transformed into a bustling marketplace of stalls and activities for all ages. Try your hand at one of the many teen and adult workshops, including African drumming, biodynamic gardening or archery. Roll up your sleeves to tie-dye a t-shirt or sculpt a clay castle. For the little ones there will be puppet shows and story-telling, as well as a myriad of art and craft stalls to fire up the imagination - flower garland and candle making, felting and silk painting to name a few. Those looking for more physical distractions can try to conquer the rock wall or strap into the bungy-trampoline. Test your soccer skills with Brisbane Roar then relax and enjoy an art exhibition and some wholesome food and drinks from a range of gourmet and organic food stalls. Stay on to enjoy the free Twilight Concert. Amongst other local performers, this evening will feature the Brisbane singer-songwriter Katie Noonan. Suits all ages. Free entry.   • 28 August 2010 - George Washingmachine - Jazz at Sunset: Legendary international jazz vocalist and violinist returns from Europe to play at Lucas Parklands in Montville. George's dazzling violin playing, eccentric vocals and infectious personality entertained to a sell-out audience last year. George runs an annual instrumental workshop at Lucas Parklands for aspiring young music students- a masterful communicator and teacher, George's workshops are very popular. Book early!
