• 3 August (Sunday) 2008 - The Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run with all proceeds going to The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) for skin cancer research.
   
• 5 August (Tuesday) 2008 - Bracken Ridge Careers Expo at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE.  Information for school students on employment and careers, including apprenticeships, training, and university courses. 9am to 3pm at BNIT's Bracken Ridge Campus, 157 Norris Road, Bracken Ridge.
   
• 7 to 16 August 2008 - The Ekka Royal Brisbane Show 
  
  
• 8 to 24 August 2008 - Olympic Games in Beijing, China. (See BCL's Beijing Olympics page.)
   
• 9 & 10 August 2008 - Pine Rivers Model Train & Hobby Expo -  Individual and club displays of model trains and other hobbies including war-gaming, model cars, historical radios, slot cars and many more. Workshops held on a range of hobby aspects. Trade stands catering for many aspects of hobby displays. Strathpine Community Centre 199 Gympie Road (off Mecklem St) Strathpine. • 31 July to 10 August 2008 - The Brisbane International Film Festival
   
• 11 August (Monday) 2008 - Ekka Show Holiday in Moreton Bay Region (Pine Rivers Shire, Redcliffe and Caboolture) Redcliffe will change their dates this year to fit in with the rest of the region.
   
• 13 August (Wednesday) 2008 - Ekka Show Holiday in Brisbane
   
• 16 to 24 August 2008 - National Science Week - Science is alive and kicking in Brisbane! 
  
  
• 17 August (Sunday) 2008 - Caboolture Wedding & Function Expo at Centenary Lakes Function Centre. For more information contact Holly on 07 5498 9112.
   
• 18 August (Monday) 2008 - Cupcake Day for the RSPCA - Grab your cupcake ingredients, dust off your chef's hat and get your mixer ready. RSPCA Qld are looking for people to make homemade cupcakes and sell them. All proceeds go to the RSPCA.  For more information or to register visit the website or call (07) 3426 9932.
   
• 22 August (Friday) 2008 - Daffodil Day - support the Cancer Council Australia by buying a bunch of daffodils or Daffodil Day merchandise, volunteering at a merchandise stall, selling merchandise at your workplace or school, or making a cash donation. • 29 August to 7 September 2008 - Brisbane Riverfestival 
   
• 30 August (Saturday) 2008 - St Paul's JSSG Community Fair(pdf) - Cha Cha, laser skirmish, animal farm, slides and swings, cake & sweet stalls, BBQ, hot food van, licensed bar, live music, games, competitions, free kids activities, memorabilia auction, raffles, student performances and classroom displays. All day individual ride passes are $20 prepaid and $25 on the day. 10-4pm, Attunga St Playing Fields, St Paul's School, Bald Hills. For more information contact Julie Hardie on 0422 129 208.
