Location and Climate

Location

Midway up the east coast of Australia, on the north border of Brisbane (capital city of Queensland, 27.5oS, 153oE), Pine Rivers Shire combines the best of city and rural life.

With the Sunshine Coast to the north, domestic and international airports less than 30 minutes drive away, and the attractions of Brisbane easily accessible by train or car, Pine Rivers is an ideal base for a Queensland holiday. The Shire has many sub-tropical parks and gardens, riverside, sailing and fishing activities
This region, indeed all Queensland, operates on Eastern Standard Time which is 10 hours ahead of GMT. Summertime or Daylight Saving is not observed.

Climate

Just 746 kilometres south of the Tropic of Capricorn, Pine Rivers has a hot, humid climate which dictates the lifestyles of its residents. While the summer maximum average temperate is only 30oC, the summer months have some extremely hot days relieved by an afternoon sea breeze. People with fair skins need to be very wary in midday sunshine which can burn in a few minutes. Hats, cool clothing that protects from the sun, sunscreen and common sense are essentials to enjoying Queensland summers. The winter is mild and very pleasant. Most winter days are sunny with average temperatures of around 15oC.
